A Polynesian twist on the Poké Bowl
A team of young Kiwis wanted to bring their version of the global food trend, Hawaiian Poké, to life with inspiration from their traditional Cook Island dish Ika Mata.
“Ika” is Cook Islands Māori for fish. “Ika Bowl” is the Polynesian twist on the Poké Bowl – a raw fish salad that originated in Hawaii.
Ika Bowl uniquely marries the Polynesian love, legacy, knowledge and respect for fresh, raw fish with the rise of urban, mainstream poke bowl offerings and healthy, clean, tasty eating.
Lemonade helped to create an authentic brand that captured the spirit of the Founders and developed a unique brand story, logo and tone of voice, so it would stand out from the crowd. We worked with the artwork from local artist Askew, incorporating it into the store design and collaborating with MCC on fit-out. We then developed the signage, menu, staff wardrobe, photography style, website, and a marketing, social and communications plan.
With their authentic and unique brand and offering, an engaged social media audience, and great food Ika Bowl has enjoyed great success for its unique cuisine.

“Poke is a global food trend but when we started out, a lot of Kiwis had never even heard of it. Lemonade helped us to create our brand and educate our audience. Using our Polynesian heritage as inspiration, they created a space that was fresh and unforgettable. They took care of the smallest details. From our branding to our website to our store - you name it, they nailed it.”
